Daniel Martinho was born in Luanda, Angola, in 1962. He completed the IFICT (Instituto de Formação, Investigação e Criação Teatral) programme and earned a B.A. at the Lisbon Theatre and Cinema School (Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema). He has worked with several directors such as Adolfo Gutkin, Rogério de Carvalho, Luís Miguel Cintra, Carlos Avilez, José Peixoto, Celso Cleto, 

Miguel Seabra, António Simão and Natália Luiza. He works regularly with Teatro Meridional and Teatro dos Aloés. He’s a resident actor in Teatro GRIOT since it began and he took part in plays directed by Zia Soares, Rogério de Carvalho, Bruno Bravo, António Pires and Paula Diogo. He’s a founder member and current vice-president of GRIOT- Associação Cultural. He has featured in films directed by Luís Filipe Rocha, Alain Tanner, Samuel Fuller, Jorge Silva Melo, Jorge António and Pocas Pascoal.  He has also taken part in documentaries “O Lugar que Ocupas”, directed by Pedro Filipe Marques and “TEMPESTADES, Ensaio de um Ensaio” directed by Uli Decker. He has participated in several television novels and series such as “Olhos de Água”, “Equador”, “O Regresso a Sizalinda”, 

“A Outra” or “A Única Mulher”.

Matamba Joaquim was born in Luanda, Angola, in 1982. He completed the Theatre Course at the Instituto Nacional de Formação Artística de Luanda. He’s a resident actor in Teatro GRIOT since it began and has taken part in plays directed by Zia Soares, Rogério de Carvalho, Nuno M Cardoso, Guilherme Mendonça, António Pires, João Fiadeiro and Paula Diogo. He’s a founder member and the current president of GRIOT - Associação Cultural.

He performed in “Moçambique” directed by Jorge Andrade for the Mala Voadora (theatre company). 

He´s a permanent member of the Academia de Cinema Portuguesa. He was part of the cast of several films such as “Capitão Falcão” directed by Pedro Leitão, “A Ilha dos cães” directed by Jorge António, “Before Dawn” directed by Maria Schrader, “Comboio de sal e açúcar” directed by Licínio de Azevedo,  he also participated in the short film “Chess” directed by Mário Melo Costa and “Libélula” directed by Ana Carvalho and in the documentary “O Lugar que Ocupas” directed by Pedro Filipe Marques. In 2018, he was distinguished with the New Talent Award by the GDA Foundation (Artists Rights Management) for his role in the film “Comboio de Sal e Açúcar” directed by Licínio Azevedo.

He has often participated in television novels and series such as “Makamba Hotel”, “O Preço da Ambição”, “O Voo Directo” and “Amor Maior”. He’s the scriptwriter of the series “Ti Xico”, “Lembranças de Guerra”, “Arquitectos” and “Professor Caramba”.

He has two published books, “O Sul sem ti” and “Dois Corvos Amarelos” co-written with Bernardete Pinheiro.

Gio Lourenço was born in Luanda, Angola, in 1987. He completed the CERCICA theatre programme. He is presently at CEM (Centro Em Movimento) with a Centro Nacional de Cultura studentship. He has worked with several directors such as Adriano Luz, José Carretas, Maria Amélia Videira or Genoveva Faísca. He was guest actor in Companhia de Teatro de Montemuro for a year and a half. He’s a resident actor in Teatro GRIOT since it was founded and has acted in plays directed by Zia Soares, Rogério de Carvalho, Nuno M Cardoso, Guilherme Mendonça, Bruno Bravo, António Pires, João Fiadeiro and Paula Diogo. He has taken part in television series such as “Equador”, “Inspector Max” or “Ele é Ela” and as a dancer in a number of videoclips. He has participated in short films such as “Filmes e Telemóvel” directed by Adriano Luz, “Verdade Inconveniente” directed by Pedro Sebastião and Paulo Cuco, as well as in the documentaries “O Lugar que Ocupas”, directed by Pedro Filipe Marques and “TEMPESTADES, Ensaio de um Ensaio” directed by Uli Decker, and in the film “A Ilha dos cães” directed by Jorge António.

Zia Soares was born in Bié, Angola, in1972. She attended the Philosophy programme at FLUL (Faculty of Humanities, University of Lisbon) and attends the MA in Scenic Art from FCSH/UNL (Social and Human Sciences Faculty, Nova University of Lisbon). At the start of her career, she worked in ballet and percussion with the Guiné-Bissau Ballet Company, circus skills and arts in the Amsterdam Balloon Company and theatre with the Brazilian “Os Sátyros” Company.  She’s one of the actors who founded Teatro Praga, where she worked between 1994 and 2000 as director and actress. She’s the artistic director of Teatro GRIOT and actress, and has taken part in plays directed by Rogério de Carvalho, Nuno M Cardoso, Bruno Bravo, António Pires and Paula Diogo.

She conceived and directed the performances “Gestuário I”, produced by INMUNE (Institute of the Black Woman in Portugal); and “Gestuário II” a co-production INMUNE / BoCA-Biennial of Contemporary Arts.  

She acted in the full feature film “Alda e Maria - Por Aqui Tudo Bem” directed by Pocas Pascoal and “Peregrinação” directed by João Botelho, as well as the documentaries “O Lugar que Ocupas” directed by Pedro Filipe Marques and “TEMPESTADES, Ensaio de um Ensaio” directed by Uli Decker. 

Rogério de Carvalho was born in Gabela, Angola, in 1936. He earned a BA in Theatre from ESTC - Lisbon Theatre and Film School

He is a theatre director and a teacher. He has staged texts by several authors and he develops his work  with theatre companies in Portugal and África. Since 2011Rogério de Carvalho staged four plays for Teatro GRIOT: "Faz escuro nos olhos", "As Confissões Verdadeiras de um Terrorista Albino", "OS NEGROS" and "Posso saltar do meio da escuridão e morder".
He was honored with the Almada Award in 2001 and with the Critics' Grand Prize in 2012 by the Portuguese Association of Theater Critics.

Chullage/soundslikenuno was born in Lisbon, Portugal, in 1977. He completed a post-graduate course in Sound Design for Theatre at RADA – Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, London. He earned a BA in Sociology of Work at ISCSP-UTL (Institute of Social and Political Sciences, University of Lisbon). He has completed the course in Sound and Musical Production, Motion Design and Creative Video at Resart. He’s a rapper, poet, reciter, sound designer, sound producer and technician. He works with other artists on records and compilations. He has made countless live performances, and has composed works for short films and theatre. He is the resident composer and sound designer of Teatro GRIOT since 2013. He often works together with the visual artists VHILS and Mónica de Miranda. He promotes and encourages creative writing workshops for P.A.L.A.V.R.A (Para Alimentar Letras Atitudes Vozes e Ritmos Activistas) and Sound and Musical Production at various schools and institutions. He’s a member of Khapaz, where he has started several community projects.  He is an anti-racist activist; he collaborates with Plataforma Gueto.

Miguel Sermão was born in Luanda, Angola, in 1974. He studied Photography (Arco), Communication Science (UNI), Translation and Creative Writing (Lusófona University) and Theatre and Cultural Entertainment  at the Comuna Teatro de Pesquisa, where he is a resident actor. 
He is an actor, storyteller, theatre director, dialogue coach and television actors director. 
He is a founding member of the GRIOT - Cultural Association, and a trainer of the PICK Griot (Community Intervention Project). 
Within theatre he works with a variety of directors, notable João Mota, João Garcia Miguel, Álvaro Correia, Alfredo Brissos, Miguel Seabra, Feruccio Soleri, Luca Aprea and Rogério de Carvalho. 
In film he has worked with Luís Galvão Teles, Jorge António, Fabrício Costa, Pedro Costa, Edgar Pera, Jorge Silva Melo and Pedro Sena Nunes, among others. In television he has worked on a number of soaps and series. 

Neusa Trovoada was born in Benguela, 

Angola in 1973. She has a degree in Communication Design from the ESAD (School of Arts and Design) in Matosinhos.

She joined Teatro GRIOT in 2018 as a scenographer, costume designer and graphic designer.

She develops projects in design, visual arts, concept food, cultural programming, branding, installation and promotion of events for several entities in Portugal, UK, Angola, Cape Verde, São Tomé and Príncipe, Spain and Canada.

She has lived and worked in UK, where she worked in corporate identity, editorial design, signage and illustration.

She also collaborated with INMUNE (Institute of the Black Woman in Portugal) as director of the Department of Communication and International Relationship.

Sofia Berberan was born in Lisbon, Portugal, in 1980. She studied Photography at IPF – Portuguese Institute of Photography, and Philosophy at the Nova University of Lisbon, where she also studied for the Scenic Art MA. She works with Teatro GRIOT since 2014 as photographer. She was the programmer at Espaço Mais Alguns, in Marvila, Lisbon, and is a member of the Imagerie photography collective.

She did an internship in stage photography in Teatro da Garagem and has worked as a photographer with Teatro GRIOT, Paulo Lage, Umcoletivo, Elmano Sancho, Susana Borges, Editora Difference among others. She also works as a producer with Teatro GRIOT, Teatro Bruto, Ana Luena, Cátia Terrinca, Mindelact, among others. She has given photography classes at the Maria Pia CED (Education and Development Centre) and organized workshops in Voz do Operário, Teatro Bocage and Pavilhão do Conhecimento. She has exhibited her work in Lisbon, Cape Verde and London.
